ST ANDREWS COMMUNITY CENTRE MOSAIC PROJECT    2015

Two beautiful mosaic artworks were created for the new St Andrews community centre by the local community.
The Lasting Memories Mosaic Group designed, planned and gave their expertise to bring these mosaics to life.
Both of these mosaics were created in the art room at
St Andrews Primary School, where the students learned
the technique of mosaicking and were enthusiastic helpers.
The project took 7 months, with over 50 locals volunteering their time to help create these two unique mosaics.
They are a celebration of the artistic richness and beauty of St Andrews.
The kitchen mosaic represents layers beneath the ground in St Andrews. Through geological processes over thousands of years, intricate patterns have been created where rocks have been redistributed and deposited in layers.  A design inspired by nature’s work.
The community room mosaic design, was created by Norma Neill, who is a member of the mosaic group and has been part of the St Andrews community for over 40 years.  Norma’s painting of the design is hanging on the wall adjacent to the mosaic.
